A Visit To Shankar Memorial National Cartoon Museum And Art Gallery

January 10 became a unique day as we visited Shankar Memorial National Cartoon Museum And Art Gallery , Kayamkulam. As usual we reached college at 8:30 AM. Nisha miss gave us an idea about Cartoonist Shankar Sir and the museum. Later, we reached the museum at 11'oclock.

The premises of the museum is well maintained with a nice garden and many sculptures. The building is constructed in the model of "Nalukettu" and a double storeyed one. The first floor consists of three rooms. Two rooms are preserved for different types of paintings from diverse traditions and cultures. The other one is reserved for Shankar Sir's Cartoons. The corridor is also utilised in a good manner to display wooden and rock sculptures. The upper floor is well maintained with photographs of Shankar Sir. His table and chair that he used to draw cartoons is also placed there. They carefully hung the caricatures and cartoons done by him. There we can get a glimpse of miniature versions of artforms like Mohiniyattam, Manipuri, museum Matka, Dandhya Ras and Kuchipudi. We collected necessary details and information from the museum. Later, we captured some photographs with the permission of authorized persons. We left the museum at 12:40 PM. This visit makes us more aware about the power and importance of cartoons and paintings. Visit to the museum has left a lingering impression on my mind.
